LE 8/12 à l'Elysée Montmartre. Super !!!!!! J'y vais ! 22 euros, même à sec, j'y vais !

Ils sont également à la prog des Trans Musicales le 6 décembre

Bon, c'est en train de ce décider, mais Miss Li est à Paris le 2 décembre et je n'ai pas envie de rater ça (14 euros, viendez voir la géniale suédoise pianotant sa pop jazzy zé acide), donc si je peux, je resterai probablement assez pour ne pas rater les Black Angels non plus.
J'espère que ce sera l'occasion de croiser quelques canards et autres palmipèdes assimilés.

Je pense y être

Belle performance hypnotique quoi que gâchée par un mixage calamiteux. Le volume trop élevé empêchait de vraiment entrer dans le concert à cause d'attaques répétitives des tympans (l'orgue n'était qu'une plaie pour les oreilles), et le mixage des guitares en bouillie rendait vaine toute tentative de preter attention aux subtilités mélodiques de chaque morceaux. Les deux grands traits du groupe ainsi charcutés, il restait la possibilité d'aprécier de temps en temps de grands moments particulierement prenants, et toujours un excelent jeu de la batteuse au style tres Mo Tucker...
Nous avons donc été frustrés par le concert et ambalés par le groupe.

Belle performance en effet, ici à Tourcoing, cette petite salle de province construite suivant des methodes modernes à l'interieur d'une ancienne chapelle(veridique) , un cube de beton inséré dans les murs de l'ancien édifice au propriétés sonores exceptionnelles...
bref un concert "tripant", oui je retiens tout spécialement la performance de la batteuse !
Par contre qu'advient il de jennifer Raines, elle a reellement quitté le groupe?

Ouaip, elle a quitté le groupe. Voici l'explication provenant de Christian Bland, le guitariste du groupe:

In May 2004 Alex, Stephanie, Me, and our friend Todd were The Black
Angels. There were 4 of us. Jennifer was my friend before she ever
joined the band and she didn't know how to play any instruments, let
alone the organ. One day, I had a bright idea to incorporate Jennifer
into the band. I thought having an extra layer of drone/organ would
thicken things up and I thought who better to teach than my friend
Jennifer who's seen us play, and who loves all the same music as us.
So, I would go over to her house with my organ, and teach her our
songs. She would memorize how to play them, even though she didn't know
what she was doing, but she would hit the keys I told her to play. So
Jennifer played her first gig with us at the Flamingo Cantina in Austin
in June 2004, one month after we formed. From the get go, she was
crucial in spreading the word about us to all her friends, and having
her in the band was like having our own PR person. She told everyone
she came into contact with about The Black Angels. She was amazing.
But, her main purpose, was to be a musician and to learn her
instrument. How can you be in a band when you don't even know how to
play your instrument? A year passed, and I was still telling her what
keys to play because she still hadn't learned how to play the organ. I
asked her to go get lessons in the fall of 2005 after we returned from
our first US tour, but she didn't heed my advice. Stephanie knows how
to play drums and started when she was in elementary school, and
practiced diligently on her own. Alex went and got vocal lessons and
plays the guitar non-stop. Nate, Kyle, and I are constantly playing the
guitar, because it's what we love to do! The point I'm making is that
each of us practiced on our own as much, or more so, than we did as a
band. We learned & practiced with our instruments so that when we
got together as a group, things would flow naturally. However,
Jennifer, the person who needed the most practice, never practiced on
her own and would come to practice and expect us to tell her what to
play. There gets to a certain point where that becomes a hinderance to
the creative output of a band. Everyone else knew what they were doing
and she didn't. We always had to tell her what keys to press because
she didn't take the time to practice on her own, and she never took the
initiative to go get lessons. In the Fall of 2006, once again we asked
her to go get lessons and to practice on her own. She still didn't!
Whenever we would ask her to practice, she claimed that 'her hands were
too small, and it was too hard, and that she just couldn't do it'. She
never took us seriously when we told her to get lessons. At that point
the rest of the band started talking amongst ourselves about replacing
her with someone who knew how to play the organ. But there was no time
for that, because we were constantly on tour. So she just kept
memorizing the parts we told her to play. When we would go into the
recording studio, I would play most of her parts (on both albums)
because I'm the one who told her what to play in the first place. So
she didn't even really record with us, unless we told her what part to
play, which might have been on 4-5 songs total out of the 21 on both of
the 2 albums. So in early 2007, Suretone took an interest in us. Things
were getting much more serious for the band. It was becoming our
full-time job. All of us were practicing more on our own and as a
group, except for Jennifer who still hadn't learned how to play the
organ, 3 years into her stint with the band!! So since we were signing
with Suretone, we asked Jennifer once again (because the 3rd times a
charm!!) to go get lessons and learn her instrument, because at this
point it wasn't fair to the rest of us to be held back by her inability
to play. We gave her the entire year of 2007 to learn the organ, and
she chose not to. So because she wasn't giving it her 100% and everyone
else was, at the end of 2007, when she still hadn't taken any
initiative to learn organ we asked her to leave the band. We gave her 3
chances! Should we have given her more? She decided not to learn the
organ, so in essence she chose not to be a part of the Black Angels.
Although, in order for her to save face, (and because she's the
ultimate Spinster, like any good PR person) she says we kicked her out.
She kicked herself in the ass when she was too lazy to learn her
instrument, so she quit on us. Her job was to be a musician first and
foremost and we couldn't force her to be one. So was it fair to The
Black Angels to keep a member who was holding the rest of us back? You
make the decision.

enfin la seule présence féminine restante est remarquable derrière ses fûts !

J'ai eu un peu de mal avec la batteuse justement... C'est vrai que ses mèches blondes balayées par un probable ventilateur habilement dissimulé lui donnait un air d'ange exterminateur assez séduisant, je comprends que la gente masculine ait pu être émue, mais les riffs de batterie ne sont pas exceptionnels à réaliser. Leur monotonie participe à créer cette ambiance lancinante et habitée que j'adore mais bon, de la à saluer la performance de la batteuse... Saluer son endurance à jouer pendant 8 minutes le même riff que l'on retrouve sur presque toutes les chansons d'ailleurs, là, oui, je m'incline. Dans l'ensemble j'ai aimé le concert même si je partage l'avis de Ziggy, trop d'effets, tue l'effet. Il m'a semblé vous apercevoir à qqs personnes derrière moi, mais je n'étais vraiment pas sûre

Justement, la performance c'est l'endurance. Aha.
Cela dit, pour ma part, je ne saluait pas tant sa qualité pure que son style, assez rare.
Quant à son physique, on en voyait pas grand chose depuis notre position de feignants.

hey, Oui la bateuse elle tape fraiment fort et longtemps...mais heuuu quand on la voit de pas loin à la basse par exemple...hum bah chacun ses gouts! Justement elle a des sacrés bras à taper aussi fort!! Mais comme je le dis j'étais pas loin mais pas trop près non plus!!!
Sinon Le grand mix c'est vrai ke c'est une belle salle, bon son, et la perf des Black Angels...c'était le panaaard!!
Les albums sont géniaux mais p"""" il faut les voir en live! C'est trop bon!

Alors que pensez vous du dernier album ??? Ca fait des mois que je l'attends, j'ai été complètement obsédée par Directions to see a ghost, et enfin le nouvel opus, le bonheur ....
